Corroision behavior of aluminum conducting wire produced using drawing oil with various service period in salt bath environment

  • The property evolution of aluminum wire drawing oil with various service periods was evaluated, and its effect on corrosion behavior of thus produced aluminum conducting wire under neutral and Cu accelerated salt bath experiments were investigated. It was found that prolonged service period resulted in pronounced incerease in solid particle density, mild increment in acidity and alkalinity, whilst marginal change in moisture content. Aluminum wires produced using drawing oil with various service periods exhibited similar corrosion tendancy under both neutral and Cu accelerated salt bath corrosion experiments. The aluminum wire was predominently eroded by localized corrosion in the neutral salt bath experiment, while rapid corrosion took place in the Cu accelerated salt bath experiment, with the wire been completely eroded in only 24 hours.
