Thermal Design Research on the Modular Commutated Converter (MCC)

Abstract
This study developed a thermal design for the cooling system of a hybrid converter with a modular commutated converter (MCC). The heat transfer characteristic of IGCT and IGBT, and the hydraulic characteristics are analyzed. The air cooler is designed. The results show that the maximum temperature of IGCT and IGBT are 99.5℃ and 95℃, respectively. The pressure drop of cooling system of converter is 2.98 bar. The design results meet the demand of MCC’s operating conditions.
