Analysis and testing of the black start test protocol for electrochemical energy storage power stations

Abstract
With the continuous expansion of power grid scale and the increasing penetration of new energy ources, the security risks facing power systems are becoming more complex. Large-scale lackouts may trigger cascading failures, severely impacting national economic stability and social order. In this context, black-start capability of electrochemical energy storage (EES) power stations stands out due to its unique flexibility and high efficiency. It offers extremely fast response, capable of delivering startup power instantly; flexible deployment near load centers; and significantly lower operating costs compared to traditional solutions, providing a more economical approach for grid restoration.This paper takes the successful black-start test at EES Station A as a case study, systematically reviewing the design logic of the test plan, full-process implementation details, and key technology applications. The feasibility of the solution is validated through on-site test data, offering practical insights for optimizing black-start strategies in the context of new power systems, and supporting the development of a safe and efficient grid emergency recovery framework.
